Results of the FameLab 2016 in the Czech Republic
The national final took place on Sunday 8 May at the Studio Ypsilon in Prague.
All 11 finalists selected in two national rounds went through the Masterclass training in April and were perfectly ready for the finals.
The expert jury including prof. Václav Pačes, Czech Academy of Sciences – chair, Mgr. Marie Rodinová (FameLab 2011 finalist), Dr. Michael Londesborough (chemist and science communicator), focused on the scientific content, clarity of presentation and charisma of the competitors.
THE OVERALL WINNER of FameLab 2016 in the Czech Republic is Eliška Selinger, who presented the realm of epigenetics. In June this year Eliška will represent the Czech Republic at the international FameLab final in Cheltenham, UK.
THE BRITISH COUNCIL AND NEURON FUNDATION PRIZE was awarded to Lenka Zychová for her presentation called “The Ray of Death” on the origin and effects of gamma radiation. Lenka can look forward to visiting the Cheltenham Science Festival, where she will accompany this year’s Czech FameLab winner.
THE AUDIENCE PRIZE was awarded to Jakub Kubečka for his presentation “A Story of a Farmer’s Dream about Science”.
THE CZECH ACADEMY OF SCIENCES PRIZE went to Václav Bystriánský. He tried to answer the question “What shall we do with it” (nuclear waste).
Julie Nováková talked about “The True Masters of Manipulation”, for which she received THE CZECH CENTRES PRIZE. This will anable her to communicate science through Czech Centres abroad.
