Can we cure aging? - Speaker: Andrew Steele

If you had to rank the problems facing humanity today, what would take the top spot? Climate change? Poverty? Antibiotic resistance? These are all serious, but biologist Andrew Steele thinks that the biggest problem is often overlooked: ageing. Every day, 100,000 people die from diseases caused by ageing—twice as many as are killed by everything else combined. Getting older seems inevitable, but new findings in biology are showing us that we can slow ageing, and even turn back the clock. For the first time in human history, we can ask the question: can we cure ageing? And, if we could, would we want to?

Andrew Steele is a scientist, writer and campaigner based in London, UK. After a PhD in physics, he decided that ageing was the biggest humanitarian problem of our time and decided to switch to a career in biology. He is currently writing a book about the biology of ageing which will be published in 2020.
