The British Council in cooperation with the Prague City Library and Adeto, z.s. presents a lecture in Czech language by Professor M. Hilský.
Shakespeare's PERICLES is one of his romances, and these can be seen as the theatrical equivalent of popular literature. It is a family drama full of coincidences, twists and unbelievable adventures. Because it is a royal family it is also a dynastic drama and is inevitably linked to power. Who is Pericles, why does he wander the stormy seas for years and find rest, peace and happiness at the end of the play? What is the role of the other characters, Gover, Marina, Cleon?
The basic situation is the eternal wandering of man and his journey as an eternal quest - it is one of the most beautiful romances of the sea in English literature, which we will be guided through by Prof. Martin Hilský, PhD, CSc, MBE.
